Dull, settled light over the water, with mild air moving in from the WNW and the barometer holding steady. On Grant Lake, work shallow cover and weed edges first. Save your energy for the middle of the day. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Grant Lake lies in Algoma, Ontario. The bank is 330 metres above sea level. With some 12 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. A shoreline of some 2.6 km keeps the choices simple. It is a small entry by Algoma standards. Thessalon lies 34 km from the water. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 210 km away. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Algoma, recorded fish include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Grant Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -12°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Plan around that when you fish Grant Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Patten Lake, 2.7 km out. For Grant Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
