Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a faint NW drift and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Goldspink Lake around inflow corners and shaded margins. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Kenora District entry here is Goldspink Lake, in Ontario. The surface lies 273 metres up. It runs to roughly 52 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Around 3.8 km of margin, front to back. Greenstone sits 232 km from the bank. Further out sit Longlac (232 km) and Geraldton (234 km). One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Kenora District include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Take Goldspink Lake a stretch at a time.
The year swings from about -22°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. The water is typically free of ice between early May and early November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Goldspink Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. The nearest alternative is Wynn Lake, 3 km out. The position on Goldspink Lake is worth confirming on the day.
