Sun coming and going behind the cloud today, with the water lying quiet with the glass holding level. Gandet Lake should fish best around the first drop-off and weed lines today. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

This water sits in Sudbury, Ontario. The ground around here is boreal forest. Around 60 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. You are looking at roughly 5.3 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. The town to know is Chapleau, 92 km out. Then Elliot Lake, 117 km, and Dowling, 120 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. The county list is broader than any single water. Gandet Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -16°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. That is the shape of the year on Gandet Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Moose Lake at 1.5 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Gandet Lake for certain.
