A wet system passing over today, with enough NW wind to stack food downwind and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Fryingpan Lake should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Fryingpan Lake is an Algoma water, in Ontario. It sits at 317 metres above sea level. With some 24 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Roughly 3.0 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Kapuskasing lies 76 km from the water. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 271 km away. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Across Algoma, recorded fish include walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Anyone new to Fryingpan Lake should walk it once before setting up.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Fryingpan Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Kapik Lake at 9.2 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Fryingpan Lake in what we hold.
