No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with a whisper of wind from the WNW with the glass holding level. The productive water at Freen Lake will be around structure within a cast of the bank. The forecast backs the stretch from night into morning. Ride the conditions while they last.

Freen Lake is one of the Hastings County waters in Ontario. It lies 308 metres above sea level. The water covers some 39 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 4.8 km of margin, front to back. It ranks high for size among our Hastings County listings. Marmora sits 31 km from here and is the nearest stop. Beyond it, Bancroft at 34 km and Madoc at 35 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Hastings County cover rock bass, smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Freen Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Long-run averages give July about 19°C and January about -10°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around early December. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Time your trip to Freen Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Failing this one, try Big Buck Lake, 1.7 km away. Treat access at Freen Lake as something to verify.
