Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with enough NE wind to stack food downwind with a settled glass. The water to cover at Flett Lake is windblown banks where food collects. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Flett Lake is one of the Kenora District waters in Ontario. It stands 315 metres above sea level. It measures some 1.14 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. The edge covers about 7.7 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Red Lake is the closest place, 150 km off. The big place round here is Winnipeg, 280 km distant. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County-wide records name northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. The shape of Flett Lake decides where the fish sit.
The seasonal spread runs -20°C to 18°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. It sets the rhythm of the year at Flett Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. For a change of water, Pascall Lake is 4.2 km distant. The position on Flett Lake is worth confirming on the day.
