Drifting cloud with clear gaps tonight, with almost no wind to speak of with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Flat Iron Lake should be near any hard bottom among the soft. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Flat Iron Lake is listed under Renfrew County, Ontario. The country round it is lake country bush from end to end. At about 29 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 3.0 km, and most of it is walkable. Ground here is low by Ontario standards. Head to Petawawa, 17 km away, for anything you forgot. It is 135 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. This one is safely inside the county line.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Renfrew County records list smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and rock bass among the fish reported. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Take Flat Iron Lake a stretch at a time.
Average temperature peaks around 19°C in July and bottoms out near -13°C in January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about early December. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Flat Iron Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, Remus Lake at 1.9 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Flat Iron Lake in what we hold.
