Thin cloud passing over the water tonight, with a light WSW breeze with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Fishog Lake should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. Quiet conditions all day, with the night marginally better. Save the long walk for a better forecast.

This water sits in Haliburton County, Ontario. Rolling bush runs right down to the water. The water covers around 1.17 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. With 21 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Size puts it in the front rank of our Haliburton County list. Supplies mean a trip to Fenelon Falls, 30 km off. After that come Bobcaygeon at 38 km and Gravenhurst at 41 km. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Haliburton County list smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, rock bass, yellow perch and lake trout. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Fishog Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Climate records put July near 19°C and January near -10°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid April. In an average year the thaw lands around mid April and the freeze near early December. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. At Fishog Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows a campsite some 40 m from the water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Cranberry Lake is 2.7 km distant. Treat Fishog Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
