Soft grey light all day today, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. Activity on Favel Lake should centre on windblown banks where food collects. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

In Ontario, Favel Lake falls inside Kenora District. The bank gives way to pine and birch. It measures some 4.95 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. The outline measures near 28 km, so a boat opens up water the bank never reaches. On our Kenora District list it sits near the top for size. The town to know is Kenora, 43 km out. After that come Vermilion Bay at 46 km and Dryden at 92 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Favel Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Between January at about -18°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Plan around that when you fish Favel Lake.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Needle Lake, 1.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Favel Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
