Dull, settled light over the water, with the surface near flat and no real change in pressure. On Ember Lake, work the shallows early and the drop later first. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

This water sits in Timiskaming District, Ontario. The bank is 345 metres above sea level. With some 12 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. With about 2.2 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Head to Timmins, 76 km away, for anything you forgot. Further out sit Kirkland Lake (86 km) and Englehart (89 km). Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Across Timiskaming District, recorded fish include brook trout, northern pike and yellow perch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. The near bank of Ember Lake is often the one people ignore.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -17°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Plan around that when you fish Ember Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Bayson Lake sits 2.3 km off and takes the overflow. For Ember Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
