Bright, clear skies over the water today, with a soft W wind and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Edna Lake should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

You will find Edna Lake in Sudbury, Ontario. It lies 255 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 27 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The bank runs about 2.6 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Capreol at 36 km is the nearest place to stop. Beyond it, Markstay-Warren at 43 km and Valley East at 45 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Records held for Sudbury cover smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Edna Lake that means starting tight and working out.
In an average year July sits at 18°C and January at -15°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Edna Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. If the gate is shut, Dip Lake at 0.9 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at Edna Lake for certain.
