Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a mirror surface most of the day with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Eastell Lake should come off reed fringes and open pockets. Quiet conditions all day, with the night marginally better. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Eastell Lake is set in District Municipality of Muskoka, Ontario. The bank gives way to rolling bush. It runs to roughly 11 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Around 1.9 km of margin, front to back. Supplies mean a trip to Huntsville, 17 km off. Further out sit Bracebridge (46 km) and United Townships of Dysart, Dudley, Harcourt, Guilford, Harburn, Bruton, Havelock, Eyre and Clyde (52 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across District Municipality of Muskoka: pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Anyone new to Eastell Lake should walk it once before setting up.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -11°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around early December. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. The season on Eastell Lake rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. J. Albert Bauer Provincial Park covers this ground, which means extra rules to check. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Should this one be busy, Fowler Lake is 1.3 km off. What applies at Eastell Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
