No direct sun expected today, with light air out of the SW and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Dunlop Lake along bays that hold the day's warmth. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

This water sits in Renfrew County, Ontario. It sits at 204 metres above sea level. Around 10 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The full circuit measures close to 1.5 km on foot. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. For a base, Deep River sits 31 km out. After that come Chalk River at 37 km and Petawawa at 55 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and rock bass. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Dunlop Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
The warmest month averages 19°C, the coldest about -13°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. On Dunlop Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Oliver Lake, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Dunlop Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
