A blustery day over the water, with a working S breeze and steady pressure. Most of the action on Duncan Lake should come off points where shallow meets deep. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Duncan Lake is one of the Grey County listings for Ontario. Height above sea level is 420 metres. Around 28 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Roughly 2.2 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Start from Markdale, 16 km down the road. The Blue Mountains follows at 17 km, then Meaford at 24 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Grey County names Chinook salmon, rainbow trout, brook trout, white sucker and cisco. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Duncan Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Average temperature peaks around 19°C in July and bottoms out near -8°C in January. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Count the season from break-up, usually mid April. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near early December in autumn. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Anyone fishing Duncan Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Eugenia Lake, 9.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Duncan Lake before loading the car.
