A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with a firm W blow and steady pressure. Dufferin Lake should fish best around the shallows early and the drop later today. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Dufferin Lake lies in Peel, in Ontario. The ground around here is mixed forest. This is a pocket water of some 4 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Peel. Erin is the closest town at 4.8 km. Beyond it, Caledon at 7.5 km and Caledon East at 14 km. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Peel cover rainbow darter, fantail darter and brook trout. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Treat Dufferin Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Between January at about -8°C and July at about 19°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid April. In an average year the thaw lands around mid April and the freeze near early December. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. On Dufferin Lake that shapes the whole year.
We hold no note on access for this one. You can park 500 m away and walk in from there. Facilities include toilets around 870 m from here. The water borders Belfountain Conservation Area, so reserve rules are likely to apply. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Green Lake, 4.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Dufferin Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
