Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with flat calm through the day with a settled glass. Start the search at Duck Lake along sheltered bays and points. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Duck Lake in the Nipissing District part of Ontario. It lies 208 metres above sea level. The water covers some 18 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. A shoreline of some 2.2 km keeps the choices simple. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. Mattawa sits 4.6 km from the bank. Callander is 48 km and Témiscaming 51 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Open biodiversity records for Nipissing District list smallmouth bass, cisco and yellow perch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Duck Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July near 18°C and January near -13°C on the long-run figures. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Duck Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, East Montreuil Lake is 1.3 km off. Confirm before you fish Duck Lake.
