A clear night sky over the water, with enough WNW wind to stack food downwind with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Dove Lake should be near reed fringes and open pockets. A hard day on paper; the evening edges the rest. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Kenora District end of Ontario holds Dove Lake. It sits at 442 metres above sea level. It measures some 1.86 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. There is roughly 10 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Compared with other Ontario water on our list, it sits high. The nearest town is Ignace, 89 km away. It is 175 km to Thunder Bay, the nearest city. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Anyone new to Dove Lake should walk it once before setting up.
The warm month here averages 17°C; the cold one sits at -20°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. On Dove Lake that shapes the whole year.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Metionga Lake is 3.4 km distant. None of that is settled for Dove Lake in what we hold.
