Rain colouring the margins today, with calm air over the water with the glass holding level. The fish at Douglas Lake are likely to sit near reed fringes and open pockets. A grinding day likely, with the morning worth the effort if any is. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Douglas Lake stands in Cochrane District, Ontario. Country round the bank runs to taiga. With some 54 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 3.8 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. Start from Kapuskasing, 36 km down the road. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 375 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across Cochrane District, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker, Iowa darter and logperch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Douglas Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -19°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan any trip to Douglas Lake around it.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Five Pines Lake, 2.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Douglas Lake are worth checking on the day.
