A closed sky with even light today, with a consistent blow out of the NW and pressure going nowhere. The fish at Dokis Lake are likely to sit near the shaded margin through bright spells. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Dokis Lake is one of the Timiskaming District waters in Ontario. Elevation runs to 355 metres. At about 32 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 4.4 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Head to Timmins, 53 km away, for anything you forgot. Kirkland Lake follows at 74 km, then Iroquois Falls at 84 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Take Dokis Lake a stretch at a time.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 17°C, while January sits near -17°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Dokis Lake.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. For a change of water, Little Esker Lake is 1.8 km distant. Signs at Dokis Lake carry more weight than any list.
