A closed sky with even light today, with a whisper of wind from the W and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Dog Lake along inflow corners and shaded margins. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

This water sits in Algoma, Ontario. The surface lies 345 metres up. Surface area is around 16 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Shoreline comes to about 3.6 km, small enough to learn in a day. For supplies, Hornepayne is 19 km out. Further out sit Manitouwadge (62 km) and Hearst (108 km). This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Reported across Algoma: walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Dog Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Dog Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Ten Minute Lake is 2.1 km off. None of that is settled for Dog Lake in what we hold.
