Steady rain over the water today, with a kind NNE breeze on the water and steady pressure. Most of the action on Doctor Lake should come off the calm side of the wind. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Doctor Lake in the Lanark County part of Ontario. This is pine and birch ground. Small at around 6 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. For a base, Perth sits 4.6 km out. Nepean sits 67 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Open biodiversity records for Lanark County list pumpkinseed, rock bass and smallmouth bass. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Doctor Lake that means starting tight and working out.
In an average year July sits at 20°C and January at -10°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid April. The season between ice runs from about mid April to early December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Doctor Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Thoms Mud Lake, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Doctor Lake for certain.
