Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a persistent wind from the WSW and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Dinner Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. Make the evening the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Set in Parry Sound District, Dinner Lake is an Ontario water. It sits at 216 metres above sea level. It measures about 13 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge runs 2.3 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. The nearest town is Parry Sound, 15 km away. Then South River, 73 km, and Huntsville, 74 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Parry Sound District include smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and northern pike. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The near bank of Dinner Lake is often the one people ignore.
Expect July to average close to 19°C, with January the cold end at about -9°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly mid April. Open water usually runs from mid April until about early December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. That is the shape of the year on Dinner Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Spectacle Lake is 2.5 km off. Where Dinner Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
