Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with enough WNW wind to stack food downwind with a settled glass. Activity on Dimock Lake should centre on the calm side of the wind. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Night
Look for Dimock Lake in Kenora District, Ontario. Elevation runs to 377 metres. At about 62 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 5.1 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Some 40 km away sits Sioux Lookout, the nearest settlement. Thunder Bay sits 288 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No border sits close enough to matter.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Kenora District cover northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. The county list is broader than any single water. On Dimock Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The year swings from about -19°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Dimock Lake that shapes the whole year.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Capin Lake is 2.9 km distant. Signs at Dimock Lake carry more weight than any list.
