Dickie Lake lies within the bounds of Thunder Bay District, Ontario. What surrounds it is spruce and muskeg. The water covers around 1.04 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. Some 6.0 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. The nearest town is Greenstone, 32 km away. Further out sit Geraldton (41 km) and Longlac (68 km). One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt, bloater and shortjaw cisco. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Dickie Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Averages move between -19°C in January and 16°C in July. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. It sets the rhythm of the year at Dickie Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Failing this one, try Little Ellis Lake, 1.9 km away. For Dickie Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
