A crisp, open sky after dark, with a light W breeze with the glass holding level. Activity on Dent Lake should centre on sheltered bays and points. The forecast is against you; the middle of the day is the least bad option. Short, focused sessions beat a long grind today. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Night
Dent Lake lies in Cochrane District, in Ontario. The bank is 144 metres above sea level. Roughly 45 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Around 3.3 km of margin, front to back. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. Head to Hearst, 95 km away, for anything you forgot. It is 470 km to Thunder Bay, the nearest city. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Public occurrence data for Cochrane District names northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker, Iowa darter and logperch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Dent Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -20°C on the long-run figures. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Dent Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Serinack Lake at 15 km is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Dent Lake.
