Blue sky from bank to bank today, with dead-still conditions with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Deadtree Lake around the margins and the shelf beyond them. Everything points to the middle of the day. Keep expectations modest and fish carefully. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Ontario holds Deadtree Lake, in Algoma. The surroundings are mixed forest. Small at around 3 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Algoma. The closest town, Thessalon, is 38 km away. Further out sit Blind River (45 km) and Elliot Lake (52 km). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Algoma include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Fish Deadtree Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The warm month here averages 18°C; the cold one sits at -12°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Deadtree Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. If the gate is shut, Rockcliff Lake at 0.7 km is the nearest alternative. What applies at Deadtree Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
