Solid cloud cover today, with a useful SW wind pushing food about with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Dagger Lake around the calm side of the wind. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Dagger Lake is a Nipissing District water, Ontario side. Country round the bank runs to rolling bush. Roughly 32 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. There is roughly 5.5 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. Haliburton Village lies 40 km off, Huntsville another 46 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Nipissing District include smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Dagger Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -12°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. It sets the rhythm of the year at Dagger Lake.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. If the gate is shut, Minkey Lake at 1.7 km is the nearest alternative. For Dagger Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
