A grey, even sky over the water, with a kind W breeze on the water with the barometer flat. Give the calm side of the wind the first hour at Currie Lake. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Currie Lake lies in Timiskaming District, in Ontario. The surface lies 318 metres up. About 1.97 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. Around 9.8 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. On our Timiskaming District list it sits near the top for size. For supplies, Timmins is 52 km out. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 189 km distant. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Timiskaming District, recorded fish include brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Currie Lake a short move beats a long cast.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -17°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Plan any trip to Currie Lake around it.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Radisson Lake, 3.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Currie Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
