Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with a consistent blow out of the WNW with the barometer flat. On Culloden Lake, work the calm side of the wind first. Fair numbers all day without a real peak. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Kenora District end of Ontario holds Culloden Lake. This is pine and birch ground. It measures some 2.69 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. Shoreline length is close to 20 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Head to Kenora, 18 km away, for anything you forgot. Moose Lake follows at 81 km, then Vermilion Bay at 96 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Culloden Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The warm month here averages 19°C; the cold one sits at -18°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Culloden Lake.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A marina sits within 910 m of the water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Roy Lake, 2.1 km away. For Culloden Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
