Flat light and a covered sky today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the WNW with a settled glass. The fish at Craft Lake are likely to sit near the margins and the shelf beyond them. If you pick one session, make it the evening. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Craft Lake stands in Kenora District, Ontario. Height above sea level is 395 metres. Roughly 38 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. With 5.4 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. The closest town, Sioux Lookout, is 149 km distant. Thunder Bay sits 266 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Survey and observation records for Kenora District include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Craft Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -21°C in January. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Open water usually runs from early May until about early November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Time your trip to Craft Lake by conditions rather than dates.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Webb Lake, 9.7 km away. Confirm before you fish Craft Lake.
