Changeable light under scattered cloud, with steady pressure of wind from the WNW and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Core Lake should hold close to inflow corners and shaded margins. Not a day the forecast likes; the evening keeps a flicker of interest. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

The Thunder Bay District entry here is Core Lake, in Ontario. It sits in taiga country. This is sizeable water at about 1.42 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Around 9.0 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. For supplies, Lappe is 72 km out. Further out sit Shuniah Township (79 km) and Nipigon (82 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Thunder Bay District: cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Core Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -20°C in January. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Anyone fishing Core Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Kingdon Lake, 1.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Core Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
