A closed sky with even light today, with flat calm through the day and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Comma Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Comma Lake is set in Thunder Bay District, Ontario. Elevation runs to 286 metres. Around 73 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Roughly 3.7 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. You are 64 km from Manitouwadge. Beyond it, Longlac at 67 km and Hornepayne at 80 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Thunder Bay District cover cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Work Comma Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
In an average year July sits at 16°C and January at -18°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Comma Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Eager Lake is 2.5 km off. None of that is settled for Comma Lake in what we hold.
