Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with an easy breeze from the NW with the glass holding level. The water to cover at Clark Lake is inflow corners and shaded margins. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Clark Lake is one of the Cochrane District listings for Ontario. The setting is northern bush. It runs to roughly 11 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The whole outline is near 1.4 km, and most of it is walkable. Ground here is low by Ontario standards. For supplies, Hornepayne is 82 km out. Thunder Bay sits 342 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Cochrane District include northern pike, yellow perch and white sucker. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Clark Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -19°C in January. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. The season on Clark Lake follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Lemon Lake is 3.6 km off. None of that is settled for Clark Lake in what we hold.
