A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with a persistent wind from the NW and pressure sitting still. On Chub Lake, work shallow cover and weed edges first. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Chub Lake in Algoma, Ontario. The setting is lake country bush. Small at around 3 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Algoma standards. The nearest place of any size is Sault Ste. Marie, 19 km away. It is 246 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. Water in the same corner: Fillion Lake (0.6 km), Reserve Lake at 1.5 km, Lake One (1.5 km), Kaufman Lake at 1.8 km and Legge Lake (2.2 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Chub Lake a short move beats a long cast.
The year swings from about -12°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. That shapes the year on Chub Lake.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Fillion Lake at 0.6 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Chub Lake carry more weight than any list.
