Solid cloud cover today, with a whisper of wind from the W and pressure going nowhere. On Charlie Lake, work shallow cover and weed edges first. Save your energy for the middle of the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Set in Algoma, Ontario, this is Charlie Lake. The ground round it is rolling bush. Around 22 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Roughly 2.1 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Compared with other Ontario water on our list, it sits high. The nearest place of any size is Wawa, 79 km away. It is 281 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Treat Charlie Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -13°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. On Charlie Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lost Lake at 2.1 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Charlie Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
