Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with a busy WNW wind on the open water with a settled glass. Fish at Charette Lake should hold close to bays that hold the day's warmth. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Charette Lake in Algoma, Ontario. The bank gives way to rolling bush. Roughly 30 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The bank runs about 3.4 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It is high ground by Ontario standards. Elliot Lake at 79 km is the nearest place to stop. Then Thessalon, 82 km, and Blind River, 89 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter among the fish reported. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Charette Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -14°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Charette Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Sigel Lake sits 3.5 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Charette Lake in what we hold.
