A half-and-half sky over the water today, with a consistent blow out of the W and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Camp Lake along reed fringes and open pockets. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Camp Lake is a Nipissing District water, in Ontario. The country round it is pine and birch from end to end. It runs to roughly 15 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The bank runs about 2.3 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Témiscaming lies 15 km from the water. Beyond it, Notre-Dame-du-Lac at 18 km and North Bay at 51 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Nipissing District: smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch, pumpkinseed and rock bass. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Camp Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -14°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Camp Lake more years than not.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Spring Lake is 1 km distant. Check the position on Camp Lake before loading the car.
