A grey, even sky over the water, with a proper ripple driven from the SW with a settled glass. Give bays that hold the day's warmth the first hour at Cameron Lake. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Cameron Lake is a Nipissing District water, Ontario side. The bank is 441 metres above sea level. Roughly 17 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. There is roughly 2.2 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Compared with other Ontario water on our list, it sits high. After that come Haliburton Village at 71 km and Chalk River at 77 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Nipissing District cover smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. The shape of Cameron Lake decides where the fish sit.
The range across the year is -13°C to 18°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Anyone fishing Cameron Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Rail Lake at 2.4 km is the nearest alternative. For Cameron Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
