Drifting cloud with clear gaps tonight, with a soft WSW wind and the barometer holding steady. Give the shallows early and the drop later the first hour at Camel Lake. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Camel Lake stands in District Municipality of Muskoka, Ontario. Elevation runs to 290 metres. It runs to roughly 55 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The margin runs to about 6.5 km in total. Bracebridge at 16 km is the nearest place to stop. Huntsville follows at 25 km, then Gravenhurst at 27 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in District Municipality of Muskoka include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and rock bass. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Anyone new to Camel Lake should walk it once before setting up.
On the long-term average, July reads 19°C and January reads -10°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Look for the thaw near mid April; the fishing lifts straight after. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly early December. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Camel Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Three Mile Lake at 3.9 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Camel Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
