Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a helpful ripple pushed from the W and the barometer holding steady. On Boulder Lake, work sheltered bays and points first. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

You will find Boulder Lake in Sudbury, Ontario. Beyond the shoreline you have boreal forest. The water covers around 1.13 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. With 6.7 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. It ranks high for size among our Sudbury listings. Some 74 km away sits Timmins, the nearest settlement. After that come Chapleau at 94 km and Smooth Rock Falls at 128 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Sudbury, recorded fish include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. The county list is broader than any single water. Take Boulder Lake a stretch at a time.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -17°C for January. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Time your trip to Boulder Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Beaverflood Lake, 1 km away. Check the position at Boulder Lake before loading the car.
