Rain colouring the margins today, with stillness over the whole water and no real change in pressure. Give shallow cover and weed edges the first hour at Bornite Lake. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Bornite Lake is a Kenora District water, in Ontario. The water sits 365 metres up. The water covers around 5.20 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. The edge covers about 18 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Size puts it in the front rank of our Kenora District list. 52 km away sits Vermilion Bay, the nearest town. The big place round here is Winnipeg, 267 km distant. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Bornite Lake that means starting tight and working out.
The seasonal spread runs -18°C to 18°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Bornite Lake.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Should this one be busy, Aerobus Lake is 4.2 km off. Confirm before you fish Bornite Lake.
