No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with a kind W breeze on the water with the barometer flat. Fish at Bog Lake should hold close to inflow corners and shaded margins. Block out the hours from morning through afternoon. Slow down and let the fish find the bait. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Bog Lake is an Algoma water, in Ontario. The country round it is taiga from end to end. It covers about 7 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. On size it sits at the modest end of our Algoma list. The nearest town is Wawa, 47 km away. Manitouwadge follows at 110 km, then Hornepayne at 120 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Bog Lake a short move beats a long cast.
The warmest month averages 16°C, the coldest about -16°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. The season on Bog Lake follows the weather closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Yaskovitch Lake, 1.6 km out. Confirm access to Bog Lake locally before you travel.
