A closed sky with even light today, with a decent SW wind working the banks and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Blue Lake will be around inflow corners and shaded margins. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Set in Nipissing District, Blue Lake is an Ontario water. The bank is 410 metres above sea level. Roughly 43 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. About 4.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. South River lies 55 km from the water. After that come Powassan at 59 km and Mattawa at 60 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch, pumpkinseed and rock bass. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Blue Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -13°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Blue Lake follows the weather closely.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A campsite lies 350 m away for anyone staying over. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Failing this one, try Mire Lake, 1.1 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Blue Lake for certain.
