An even grey lid over the water, with a soft S wind with the barometer flat. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Biggar Lake. The day peaks in the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Biggar Lake sits within Renfrew County in Ontario. The setting is lake country bush on every side. Small at around 7 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. For supplies, Chalk River is 16 km out. Gatineau is the closest city, 147 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Reported across Renfrew County: smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Biggar Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 19°C in July and bottoms out near -13°C in January. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Anyone fishing Biggar Lake regularly works to that calendar.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Colin Lake is 1.6 km off. For Biggar Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
