This water sits in Nipissing District, Ontario. It lies 197 metres above sea level. It measures about 15 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The whole outline is near 2.1 km, and most of it is walkable. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Ontario listings. The nearest place of any size is Callander, 20 km away. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 141 km away. This one is safely inside the county line.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Nipissing District, recorded fish include smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Read Bigfish Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Temperature averages peak at 19°C in July and bottom out at -13°C in January. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near early December. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Bigfish Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. For a change of water, Whitethroat Lake is 0.9 km distant. None of that is settled for Bigfish Lake in what we hold.
