Showers crossing the water today, with a decent WNW wind working the banks and pressure going nowhere. Expect most activity at Bentarm Lake around the margins and the shelf beyond them. Middle-of-the-road numbers across the board. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Bentarm Lake is one of the Kenora District waters in Ontario. The country here is mixed forest. It measures about 100 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge covers about 9.8 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. It sits higher than most water we list in Ontario. Ignace is the closest place, 20 km off. Atikokan is 54 km away, with Sioux Lookout at 95 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Bentarm Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -18°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. It sets the rhythm of the year at Bentarm Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Johnson Lake, 1.6 km out. Check the current arrangement for Bentarm Lake.
