A grey, even sky over the water, with barely a breath of wind and pressure going nowhere. Activity on Beaver Lake should centre on the first drop-off and weed lines. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Beaver Lake is one of the Cochrane District waters in Ontario. The bank is 287 metres above sea level. This is a tiny water, and one quiet approach covers all of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Cochrane District. Start from Cochrane, 20 km down the road. Iroquois Falls is 40 km away, with Smooth Rock Falls at 65 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Cochrane District records list northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker, Iowa darter and logperch among the fish reported. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Fish Beaver Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -19°C in January. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. The season on Beaver Lake rarely departs from it.
We hold no note on access for this one. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Failing this one, try Dai Lake, 1.2 km away. None of that is settled for Beaver Lake in what we hold.
