A clean, cloudless night over the water, with a firm WNW blow with the glass holding level. The water to cover at Bay Lake is reed fringes and open pockets. The day fishes best from the day. Pick two or three spots and rotate them. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Algoma entry here is Bay Lake, in Ontario. It sits at 215 metres above sea level. The water covers some 43 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 4.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. For supplies, Blind River is 15 km out. After that come Elliot Lake at 37 km and Thessalon at 37 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Algoma include walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Bay Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Seasonal averages run from -11°C in January up to 18°C in July. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near early December in autumn. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Expect Bay Lake to follow that timing.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Cherry Lake is 1.5 km distant. Ask locally about Bay Lake if anything is unclear.
