Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with a mirror surface most of the day with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Bass Lake is shallow cover and weed edges. Bank on the evening and treat the rest as bonus. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Ontario holds Bass Lake, in Thunder Bay District. Elevation runs to 318 metres. The water covers some 50 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. With about 4.7 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. For a base, Amethyst Harbour sits 16 km out. Further out sit Shuniah Township (32 km) and Current River (39 km). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Thunder Bay District list cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. At Bass Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The year swings from about -15°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. The season on Bass Lake rarely departs from it.
Public data does not answer the access question here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. For a change of water, Luck Lake is 1.7 km distant. For Bass Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
