Dull, settled light over the water, with just enough WNW wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Barker Bay should come off channel edges and moving water. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Barker Bay sits in Kenora District, out in Ontario. The setting is rolling bush on every side. The closest town, Dryden, is 59 km away. Vermilion Bay is 69 km away, with Fort Frances at 79 km. Nearest other option: Kaminni Lake after 6.1 km, Lower Manitou Lake a touch under 6.2 km, Aronson Lake after 8.4 km, Edward Lake a touch under 8.4 km and Picture Narrows Lake after 8.7 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The mouth fishes hardest when the run is at its strongest. Salt and fresh mix here, and the mixing line is worth finding. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Anyone new to Barker Bay should walk it once before setting up.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Barker Bay fishes to that pattern most years.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Kaminni Lake at 6.1 km is the nearest alternative. Treat Barker Bay as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
